Prologue to Evolution

It has been awhile since I have had time to post anything on here. I have been very busy working on some exciting stuff. This one however is my pride and joy Bio-Fi Novel I have been working on as of lately. I hope you enjoy!

It’s not our fault, it never was. It was in our nature to be so curious. It could have been our scientific minds working overtime to comprehend something never before seen. Either way, our superiority complex over the world at large brought the destruction of our own species. When the first specimen was reported in a lab in San Francisco we still stood a chance. We could have destroyed it and keep humans on the top of the food chain, but it was in our nature to want to examine it. The millions of years it took evolution to produce such creatures should have warned us that time was limited.

If you want to look back a wink or two, Joan Redman could have saved us all when she stumbled upon the first pod producing plant in New York. She could have ripped it out of the concrete and smashed the horrid offspring’s before they produced. Our fate rested in her hands. On that sunny afternoon however, Joan noticed the small plant with the embriotic nightmares attached to the leaves and became curious. Frogs, little frogs being born from a plant that required no water and minimal soil seemed like the discovery of the century. I’m sure she felt the dread wash over her. Deep down she battled with her own demons to an extent, but in the end, Joan Redman wanted the fame. She watched as it wiggled in its little bubble waiting to be Mother Nature’s first born. The green veins pulsed and the plant shook all the way to its roots as it tried to escape. She simply smiled to herself as she carefully plucked it from the cracked sidewalk and walked it home. It took less than seventy two hours before she had it documented and sent to Dr. Moore’s lab in San Francisco.

I guess I could also argue that it was Dr. Moore who started it all, but than I would be pointing a finger at a brilliant man. He wanted to study it, to learn from it. He found it to be out of place in the modern world and feared it. He was convinced he could learn the internal secrets it held and prepare mankind for a fate worse than death…evolution. It was actually his partner Dr. Balm who was eating up the limelight. Between the articles in the magazines, the television interviews, and the seminars, he was eager to push it to the next step. He secretly injected hormones into the first pod animal, making it grow at an alarming rate. He introduced it to shallow water and mud full of nutrients. Day after day, he would watch the frog grow.

It wasn’t long after that, when Dr. Balm noticed new plants growing in the mud. He injected the hormones directly into the stems, helping things move along nicely. It took less than a week for the plants to produce new eggs and a few days longer for them to hatch. This time, things were different. The plants were larger and the eggs were oddly shaped. It was at this point that the nightmare truly began. By the time the lab opened the next day, all the eggs had hatched and were running wild. Instead of cute little frogs, baby alligators, poison tree frogs were produced. Tiny plants already started growing through the microscopes, on the table, in the cracks of the wall, and everywhere else the creatures germinated.

By the time the bodies were found by the authorities, the plague of pod creatures had began. That was ten years ago. Even now, the vast darkness of the underground tunnels make me shiver, but it is our home. Our only goal is to survive the daylight.

Intangible: Revelations Excerpt

The expression on the bald man’s face twisted from smirk to agony as his clothes turned into a murder of crows, ripping and tearing at his flesh. When the birds flew, only a former shell of a human remained. Flesh and bone of a tattered corpse lay upon the cold ground, a testament to the raw power of the new found gods.

“Bow…” started Bryan.

“…to us!” Finished Ryan

The crowd dropped to their knees and placed their heads between their hands, tears swelling in their eyes. They intently listened for their next command. Daggers rained upon the ground, making a terrifying sound echo in the silence. No one dared look up from their holy position.

“Faithful servants, prove yourselves in the eyes of your gods.”

“We need thirteen of you. Only thirteen.”

“Thrust the blade of redemption…”

“…into the flesh of the nonbelievers,” finished Bryan.
The crowd scrambled to their feet and dove for the nearest blade, driving it repeatedly into the bodies of their long-time loved ones.

Operation Blackmail Excerpt

A cold piercing stare is all he could manage. The letter addressed to him had over two hundred signatures and spanned four departments. His mind raced as he tried to make sense of it all. Mr. Quinten straightened his tie and took one more swig from his magic elixir in the frosted glass. Once more he focused on the words.

Mr.Quinten,

We are unsure if you are aware of the changes that have taken place this week in your company. The work environment we endure is highly unacceptable! We have no coffee, we have no office supplies, and the rolling blackouts are making our work space increasingly hot. On top off all of that, we have no ‘Enter’ keys on our keyboards. Many rodents wearing what appears to be a diaper will not let us open the cabinets or icebox in the break room. We have seen two supervisors leave, a toupee dangle, and a horrible stench is coming from the fern in the lobby. We cannot take it anymore. You have until Monday to fix it or we will be on strike.

He slammed the paper down on the table and slumped in his chair. A mix between anger and sadness drained him of any energy he had left. He knew what they were talking about. The blackouts affected him as well, and he had to send his receptionist to a coffee shop every morning this week. Another day or two like this and his company may never recover. The losses were astronomical, the worst they have ever been in his company and he may not see another million dollar month.

Guest Post by Artist Danielle Thomas

Danielle was nice enough to take time away from her work on our graphic novel to come up with a great post for me to share. I am thrilled to introduce you to her, and show you this wonderful sample of her talent. I expect big things, but until then see even more artwork of hers at her website.

Hello, everyone. Is that how you start a blog?  I'm no good at these things, I suppose.  But, I will do my best!
A little bit about me as a person.  I am a fun loving person, who enjoys video games, anime, manga, writing, drawing, and a whole bunch of other things.  I tend to spend most of my time at home playing games, and hanging out with my fiance and my animals.  Honestly, that's probably all you want to know about me.
As an artist... I love to draw, and I love to write.  I love to Forum RP, which is where I get my creativity from.  Most of my art is based off of some of my RP characters.  I love to draw them, because I feel like I need to give them even more life.  I do also draw random things just from bursts of inspiration.  I like to challenge myself when I draw, and new genres and ideas are really fun to me.  I've been drawing since I was young, and found that drawing anime type pictures came naturally to me.  I began drawing more frequently since the ninth grade, and slowly progressed into the artist I am now.
I am very excited and looking forward to working on this new project with Cody Toye, in making the Intangible Series a great graphic novel.
